How It Works

From submission to celebration — a season in four acts.

1
📚

Submit

A new season opens and everyone pitches one book they want the club to read. Add a title, author, and page count — the app checks for duplicates and books we've already read so nothing sneaks through twice.

You'll also see a couple of promoted books carried over from last season — popular picks that didn't win get another shot automatically.

One new book per member, plus promoted books from last time.

🗳️

Rank

Once all books are in, everyone drag-and-drop ranks every submission from favorite to least favorite. Rankings are tallied using a Borda count — your #1 pick gets the most points, #2 a little less, and so on. This produces fair seed numbers for the bracket.

Think of it as the regular season — every book earns its seed.

Bracket

Not every book makes the bracket — the bottom seeds are relegated, trimming the field so the tournament stays tight. The remaining top-seeded books face off in a single-elimination tournament. Seed #1 plays the lowest remaining seed, #2 plays the second-lowest, and so on. Each round, everyone votes head-to-head — the book with the most votes advances. Rounds auto-advance once all votes are in.

Relegated books aren't gone forever — anyone can re-submit one next season if they still want the club to read it.

The playoffs. May the best book win.

Winner + Meetup

The final matchup crowns a champion — that's the book we all read! A meetup poll automatically opens so the club can vote on when and where to get together and discuss. Propose times, vote for everything that works, and the most popular option wins.

Time to read, then time to talk about it.
